Company History

Thirteenth Colony began as a casual conversation among friends about making moonshine as Christmas gifts for friends, family, and employees. As the conversation evolved over the coming months, the idea began to take hold and plans developed to create a distillery in Georgia that would offer spirits we would be proud to offer our friends and neighbors and proud to have our names on.

Based in Americus, Georgia, Thirteenth Colony produces unique handcrafted, small-batch spirits with a southern flair. Our initial product offering in April of 2009, was Plantation Vodka, a high quality vodka with a traditional vodka taste profile featuring artwork on the label by the Georgia artist of the year, David Lanier.  Our second product was Southern Vodka, a silky smooth vodka produced in August of 2009.  Our third offering was Southern Gin, released in February of 2010 and already a multiple award winning spirit including a gold medal at the SIP International Tasting Competition in San Diego and a silver medal at the recent BTI competition in Chicago.  Our fourth product was released in the fall of 2010, a Limited Release Southern Corn Whiskey. In keeping with the Thirteenth Colony philosophy, it is a handcrafted, small batch, limited quantity, 100% corn whiskey to be released this fall – with a 2010 production of only 400 6 bottle cases, when this limited production product is gone, it is gone for the year.

Other unique and exciting distilled spirits are planned or in development, but with each offering we are determined to maintain the Thirteenth Colony commitment to producing only the highest quality, handcrafted spirits. We are committed to offering small batch, handcrafted spirits in the southern tradition of pride in our products, great quality in every bottle, use of local ingredients and a personal and friendly touch in all we do.

Thirteenth Colony began distribution in April 2009 in South Georgia. In the intervening months, we have expanded our spirits into Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. We began our spirits journey with the intent of making unique distilled spirits as gifts to our friends, our employees and our families. Our goal then and our goal now is to make spirits that are the highest quality and best spirits available, spirits we are proud to have our names on, and spirits we are proud to share with our friends and neighbors. The saying made by friends for friends is more than a saying; it is how our journey in distilled spirits began, it permeates all our business dealings, it guides our product development and tells the essential story of Thirteenth Colony.
